The park features some significant memorials including the central sculpture, The Eagle, representative of the RAAF, and created by Mr Don McHattie, of Bar Beach.
There is also The Anchor, the Vietnam Plinth and memorials to the Condamine and the Rats of Tobruk.
Small metal plaques have been embedded around the gardens, each bearing the name and rank of the soldier, sailor or airman remembered. Many of these servicemen were buried overseas during the conflicts, and some are representative of those who have no known resting place.
Originally families contributed towards the cost of the plaques. Over the years others have been added as servicemen have died. During the planned redevelopment, the plaques may be displayed in a different manner so that they are not so easily overgrown, covered with leaves or are at risk of vandalism.
If you would like to honour one of the men on the existing plaques, please email or post the details in no more than 150 words to us (see "Contact us")
