As part of the revitalization of the Civic Park War Memorial Grove, a Sunset Service was held at the grove for the first time on April 24th, 2012.
Almost 100 people attended. A candle was lit beside each of the plaques and burnt throughout the service.
Many of those present were related to those commemorated in the grove, or involved with service organisations and churches. Civic dignitaries also attended, although none were singled out to preserve the sense of equality.
This establishing service will hopefully become an annual event on the Eve of Anzac Day each year at dusk.
This year’s service, 2013, will be held at the Grove at 5.15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24th. It is open to all who wish to participate.
